    Local Walks and Attractions

The serious or casual walker will find an array of country paths that wind along the banks of the river and canal or climb to one of several panoramic viewpoints from the hills around Bathford. The level walk between Bathford and Bath City centre follows the meandering riverside and canal path with beautiful views over the surrounding country, as you pass by an array of brightly painted canal barges and the panorama of Bath opens up before you –

WALKING TO BATH.   It takes about one hour along the picturesque river and canal path, very beautiful and definitely recommended. Follow the roadside footpath nearest to the river until you reach a small car park opposite the shops. Follow meandering river path until you reach the old Toll Bridge (as shown above on right) .  Cross the bridge (free to pedestrians) passing the Water Mill and the  Bathampton Mill pub and restaurant, then continue for ¼ mile along  country road until you reach the 13th Century  George Pub, set between the Church and the canal.  From the George,  join the Kennet and Avon canal, turn right and walk for about 1½  miles along this beautiful stretch of Canal.  Pass through one long tunnel, under a second small Victorian Iron bridge and you will find a gate on your right leading into Sydney Gardens.  Continue down through this attractive park to the main park entrance; turn left until you reach the Holburne  Museum  then  immediately turn right down the most magnificent street in Bath, the world famous Great Pulteney Street, past Laura Place with its fountain in the centre and over the spectacular Pulteney Bridge, lined with an array of shops, leading to Bath City centre.
