Can
my customers buy
produce or products directly from my web-site.
Lowest cost option
- £200.00 approx - We
can set you up with a low cost system called 'Pay Pal' - this is a USA
originated internet
banking system, now widely used in the UK, which was originally designed to allow people to transfer money
from their credit card to someone else's credit card over the Internet.
This has
been extended so that the payment system can be added on to a website. The
advantage is that it is much cheaper than a full-blown 'shopping cart' system to
set up. You don't need a merchant account (normal business account with a High
St bank)- the
payment goes straight into your own credit card. This system is widely used on
Ebay.
The simplest option is to set up a single payment button i.e. by clicking
this button, the purchaser can then enter any amount they like into a box. This
amount is then deducted from their credit card. This means that you don't have
to have a purchase button alongside all your products, just one which allows the
purchaser to pay for any one, or more, of your products, regardless of the price.
If they buy more than one product they have to add up the total themselves.
Medium
and high cost options - £300.00 to £2000.00 approx. These are more complex
and more expensive systems which require you to open a
merchant account and have a complex 'shopping cart' system. A 'shopping cart' is
a system which you see on a lot of websites where you click on the product you
require, the product goes into the shopping cart, and then you are taken to an Internet
bank which deducts the money from your credit card. There are various methods of
doing this with different cost implications. Contact Spider Spider for more details.
Generally, buying items
over the Internet works well and is trouble free. However there are one or two
points to look out for. If you are a vendor, i.e. a stall holder
in the market, and you accept payment for goods from a credit card, there is not
a 100% guarantee that you will always get your money. Even if the credit card
clears normally, and you receive your payment from Visa or a bank, there is
always a possibility that if the card was used fraudulently, the bank or
Visa may reclaim the money from yourselves, i.e. the trader, at a later
date. This happens very infrequently, and can apply to any transaction
using a credit card, not just the internet. However this abuse of the credit
card system has been known to occur over the internet so is worth bearing in
mind. The only real protection here is to avoid one particular client,
especially from abroad, owing you too much money, or purchasing too much from
you at any given time, without the funds clearing first.
The
above advice applies to any credit card transaction, not just Internet
ones.
