Architectural drawing of this detail

5.

Zone D West Front.  Detail of The Resurrection No 32, and Ascension No 33, before conservation.  The fine detail of these panel carvings was in serious danger of being imminently lost due to the lamination of the face bedded stone.  Precious details such as a face, hand, and robe were hanging by a thread.  The presence of lichen and hard cement repairs were further causes of concern.  In order to stabilise these carvings the conservators had to work with delicate hands, feeling through their fingertips.  An important aspect of this work was the stitching of the surface with adhesive repairs and micro- pinning with stainless steel wire and dowels.
