Employment Law

  Did you know?

The present maximum award in standard unfair dismissal cases is £69,900

There is no limit to the award that may be made in discrimination cases

Although the standard unfair dismissal claim requires a minimum of one year’s service, there are over 20 different situations in which an employee can claim unfair dismissal from the moment that they are employed by you

If you sack an employee who is off work with stress, you may be faced with a claim under the Disability Discrimination Act

If you fail to deal properly with employees’ grievances you may be faced with constructive unfair dismissal claims when they walk out

You do not need to have been told about an employee’s “disability” for them to successfully sue you under the Disability Discrimination Act

Companies have a legal responsibility not to discriminate against part time employees

Employment Tribunals can make costs awards of up to £10,000 against a party who pursues or defends a claim “unreasonably”

If you give a reference which is inaccurate or misleading then you may be sued by the employee and their future employers.
